Making it All Work...
I placed an order for $35,000.00 having less than $250.00 to my name. I figured the manufacturer said it would take them at least 60 days to produce the product, and another 30 to ship. So in my mind I had 90 days to come up with the entire $35,000.00. When I was a kid I remembered listening to a gentleman speak about business and risk. He said, "The biggest risk you can take is not taking the risk at all". I am reminded of this quote every time I sign the dotted line on a loan, a purchase order, or anything else that requires me to take even the slightest risk. Right away I was experiencing several different feelings. First I was so excited that now I finally had product on order and I was about to embark on a great journey. Then once that feeling wore off I then felt stressed. It was kind of like I was experiencing buyer's remorse. That feeling you get when you bought something really expensive that you really wanted, but not necessarily needed. That is kind of how I felt. I knew that if I didn't do this, then this project would sit for another 5 years. I figured that now I had a deadline, this would get me motivated enough to find investors.
This was the next difficult stage in the building a business process. I formed a band at K-State, and recorded a C.D. So at this point in my life I had spiky blonde hair and an earring. Imagine being 21 years old and asking someone for $1 million to invest in a company structured around a "Reinvented" fork! You can imagine how many tries it took me to finally get someone so take a risk and put their faith in me. I started out by finding the first $35,000.00 I needed to pay for my product. Once again this only paid for my product and there I was again searching for more money. In the fall of 2003, I finally got what I was looking for when a friend of mine introduced me to the Wray's. Kevin Wray with Wray Roofing, a business man from Newton Kansas, was presented with a business plan and an opportunity to invest and help a young entrepreneur take his dream and make it a reality. He took this leap of faith with several others of his friends and business partners and I am forever indebted to them for this. I could not have done this without the help of everyone involved, friends and family and I am extremely thankful for them. Everyday there is something exciting happening and something new I am learning. This is where one chapter ends and another begins!
